Beattie's Optomestrists outdoor thermometer
This wonderful outdoor advertising thermometer boasts a temperature range from 120 degrees F. to a minus 60 degrees F! The great eye graphic at top is still very crisp. The thermometer itself is intact and apparently functional, as it is currently recording the correct room temperature. You will have to verify the 60 below temperature yourself! The thermometer is attached to the board with two ornate metal straps and a perforated bulb guard. Taylor or Rochester, NY is listed on the face as the supplier of the thermometer. A little stained and paint crackling shows its age without detracting from its appeal. Paint is good and tight, with no flaking. Dimensions are 21" long, 5" wide and 3/4" thick.
Price is $225, plus shipping.

Lycosite
The Lycosite looks like the original Head-On remedy being touted on television as of late. The box states it "instantly relieves all superficial pains, headache, toothache, neuralgia, rheumatism, woman's monthly pains, pain in side, back, lungs, joints, muscles or kidneys; PAIN ANYWHERE." I'm sold, I'll take three. No, wait, I'm selling. It consists of the main bottle with its screw cap with 2 glass tubes. Rubber tubing (the rubber tubing is hard and has broken) connects one tube to the clear glass disc of a mouth piece and the other to the applicator head, which is also clear glass with a screw cap with felt top which is to be rubbed on the affected area. A small corked bottle of the oil to be used is included, along with a paper sheet of directions. It is all enclosed in a cardboard box with a great paper label with text and graphics. All are in very good condition. Dimension of the box are 6" wide and 3" deep & high.
Price is $300 plus shipping.

Empress Brand Tablets display tin
The Tansy, Cotton Root, Pennyroyal & Apiol Tablets display tin is a beautiful display piece. This tin measures 7" wide, 3" deep & 3-1/4" high. Bottom has a rolled edge. Hinged top works easily and reveals a black painted interior. The women's portraits on the top and front are very good and the green, black and gold colors are striking. This product was sold as a "female complaints" remedy, up to & including its use as an abortifacient, in all likelihood. The Tansy alone was used for this, but the 1906 U. S. Dispensatory warns against it as too dangerous. A few splotches and scuffs attest to its age, but is still displays wonderfully.
